How To Protect Your Skin From The UV Rays
Sunlight benefits your health by helping your skin to synthesize Vitamin D. However, if you stay too long under the sun, it can damage your skin.
Some people believe that fairer skin is more likely to be burned by sunlight. However, this is not true. Regardless of skin color, the ultra-violet (UV) rays from the sunlight can cause skin damage. Therefore, you need to protect your skin from the sun in any way you can.
Whenever you are away from your home, you can’t stop your skin from exposing to the sun. Therefore, you need sun protection. Here are some tips on how to protect your skin from the UV rays.
- Use sunscreen. You should realize by now the importance of sunscreen. All sunscreens contain Sun Protection Factor ingredients (SPF). They can block UV lights from penetrating through your skin. The higher the SPF numbers the longer the protection. Always apply sunscreens on skin areas that are most likely to be exposed to the sun. These include lower arm and legs, ear lobes, nose, feet and the face. Choose sunscreens that contain a high amount of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, benzophenone, oxybenzone, sulisobenzone, and butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane (avobenzone).
- Wear protective clothes. Tightly woven clothing can protect your skin from UV rays. Today, you can find some clothes with labels that show their effectiveness in blocking UV rays. Hats with wide brim also offer some protection.
- Reduce unnecessary exposure and tanning. Beach is one place where your skin is easily exposed to the sunlight. You can reduce your activity at such places to avoid sun exposure. Cosmetic tanning can increase skin damage even though it uses UVA rays. These rays don’t cause noticeable burns but the damage they inflict on your skin is equivalent to UVB rays.

Hi there
I wanted to write and introduce myself.
My name is Missy. I work closely with Samantha from the Associated Press and she recommended I contact you!
I am in the sun protective clothing business. I work with companies to get the word out about the dangers of overexposure to the sun and skin cancer awareness.
I would very much like to talk with you about helping spread the word about this horrible illness.
Thanks so much,
Missy
