Why The Reduction Of Dihydrotestosterone Can Be An Effective Acne Treatment
Hormonal imbalance is responsible for the development of acne. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is one the androgens that can cause acne. How does this hormone develop in your body?
Testosterone becomes dihydrotestosterone with the help of the enzyme 5alpha-reductase. Dihydrotestosterone promotes the production of sebum. When too much of sebum is produced, the surplus will fill up the follicular tube.
Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) within the follicles produce enzymes, which are known as bacterial lipases. These enzymes convert the sebum into fatty acids. As a result, the irritation develops and your body begins to shed off dead cells. At the same time, your body begins to produce more cells. The shedding of the dead cells blocks the follicles and eventually traps the P. acnes bacteria. This leads to acne.
The presence of dihydrotestosterone upset the hormonal balance. For acne treatment, you need to reduce the level of dihydrotestosterone in your body. If you leave it alone, the dihydrotestosterone and high level of testosterone can make the acne severe.
You can do it in two ways.
- Minimize the activity of the 5-alpha reductase by eating zinc rich food, soy, evening primrose oil, flaxseed, and pumpkin seed. Avoid foods that are rich with saturated fat such as dairy products and meat.
- Remove the dihydrotestosterone through your liver. Improve the cleansing function of your liver by eating cauliflower, berries, cabbage, garlic, and broccoli.
You can also use drugs that inhibit the activity of the 5-alpha reductase such as Finasteride and contraceptive pills.
Acnezine, a natural acne supplement, can help your liver to get rid of dihydrotestosterone. Click here to find out more about Acnezine
